The Language Service opened in 1994, its preceding school being the Language Institute of the University of La Laguna (in 1990), so we have over 20 years’ experience. It is managed by the University of La Laguna Foundation whose mission is to meet the needs of knowledge and improvement of foreign languages in the university community and the islands' society in general.
The range of languages taught is broad: English, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese, Arabic and Spanish for foreigners.
In 1991 we began to teach Spanish aimed at foreigners who studied with the Erasmus program at the University of La Laguna, as well as foreign researchers or professors, or people visiting the island or residing seasonally.
The Spanish courses are organized, first in monthly workshops of 24 hours (6 hours per week in two sessions) and also intensive 24-hour workshops taught in two consecutive weeks (3 hours daily from Monday to Thursday). The workshops are offered in the morning and afternoon to facilitate the compatibility with your professional obligations or simply so that during your stay you can visit the island of Tenerife and enjoy a host of sports and leisureactivities.
Students who attend two consecutive workshops during the academic year will be entitled to take a Languages Service Spanish level accreditation examination according to the CEFR free of charge.
The workshops offer the option of combining face-to-face classes simultaneously with an online course of AVE (Spanish Virtual Classroom) designed by the Cervantes Institute. You can also take these courses in online form before coming to Tenerife.
We also organize special intensive courses, including conversation classes or preparation for the DELE (Diploma of Spanish Language).

The Department of Spanish is composed of qualified professionals with extensive experience:
• Graduates in Philology.
• Masters in Teaching Spanish as a Foreign Language.
• Aware of the latest methodological trends in teaching Spanish.
• Experience in training teachers of Spanish.
• Knowledge in the use of ICT in the classroom.

The centre is located within the Central Campus of the University of La Laguna, 10 minutes walk from the old town of San Cristobal de La Laguna, named a Unesco World Heritage Site in 1999. La Laguna is a university town with a lot of cultural life and history, a huge gastronomic offer, nature and beaches, beautiful weather almost all year round, and especially the kindness and friendliness of its inhabitants. 

Our courses are imparted by teachers who are specialized and experienced in teaching Spanish as a foreign language, so it is ensured that the organization of courses / workshops responds to programming contents according to the latest methodological trends.

The main objective is to develop in students the skills and strategies needed to enable them to cope in different situations of real life communication. This requires a comprehensive and balanced work of the four skills adapted to the student's level of competence (oral and written comprehension and expression), functional and grammatical contents according to their level, not forgetting the cultural aspects of Spanish speaking countries, as well as aspects related to autonomous learning of the student. We follow an attractive and varied teaching methodology, supported by technological means, using group dynamics to get a familiar, relaxed and dynamic environment, ideal for learning and practicing a language.

ONLINE COURSES AND BLENDED COURSES: You can combine our workshops and courses with the Spanish Virtual Classroom (AVE) of the Cervantes Institute. Access to the AVE platform is granted for three months. You can take these courses online before coming to Tenerife or combine them with our on-site courses once you have arrived on the island. These courses will allow you to be better prepared and make the most of the on-site courses. AVE COURSES WITHOUT TUTORIALS: Autonomous learning. Access to the AVE platform contents for three months. AVE COURSES WITH CUSTOMISED ONLINE TUTORIALS:Guided online learning. One of our teachers will accompany and advise you throughout the process. Access to the AVE platform contents for three months. PREPARATORY COURSE FOR DELE EXAMS OF THE INSTITUTO CERVANTES: The DELE (Diplomas in Spanish Language) are internationally recognised official qualifications and enjoy prestige both in educational institutions and in the institutional and business world. The Languages Service helps you to prepare for these exams which are held at our university. PREPARATORY - COURSE FOR DELE EXAMS 40 hours on site + 30 hours online (AVE platform). You can do this at the premises of the Languages Service of the ULL in Avenida de la Trinidad, 60, 1st floor, by previously making an appointment through our SedeElectrónica (fg.ull.es/A15050323). Students who prefer to do the oral component of the placement test via Skype must send an email to our head of the Spanish Department Beatriz Hernandez:bhernan@fg.ull.es, after completing the online test. After the test, you will be advised about your level and the course you should take. You will also receive an email informing you about the course tuition fees and payment methods and instructions. You can pay online through our virtual TPV (payment terminal), or at Automated Teller Machines or by credit/debit card at the Registrar’s Office (Secretaría) of the FGULL. 2.
