Spanish School general description
International House Barcelona has been a centre of excellence for 40 years and is one of the longest established and most successful language schools in Spain.
The school occupies six floors of an elegant and large corner building, which has a distinctive, triangular shape (somewhat similar to the famous 'flat-iron' building in New York) and is located less than 5 minutes walk from the Plaza Catalunya, which is the very centre of Barcelona.
IH Barcelona really is an International House. We have students from all over the world taking Spanish courses with us; we have two large and prestigious teacher training departments training people to teach either Spanish or English as a foreign language; and we also teach English, German and French to the local population, so there are always hundreds of native Spanish speakers studying with us in the school. This unique cocktail of courses and students helps create an extraordinary atmosphere and means that meeting people who speak the language you're studying couldn't be easier.

Methodology in Spanish courses
The main objective of most of our Spanish courses is to improve the students' communicative skills. The emphasis of classroom activities is therefore the development of the students' abilities to speak and understand spoken Spanish.
For this reason, classes are conducted entirely in Spanish and students are given plenty of opportunity to practise the sort of language they are likely to need outside the classroom. We don't just want our students to "know" Spanish, we want them to be able to use it!
Due attention is also paid to grammar, vocabulary, reading and writing skills, and a wide variety of materials is used including published materials from many sources as well as materials which have been written by our own teachers.
All materials that the students need to work with are provided free of charge.
