Spanish School general description

Mester gives its international students the opportunity to feel, enjoy and be an active part of the unique way of life, which is so different from their own: the Spanish way of life.

At Mester, education doesn’t finish in class. We assure that each one of the activities we organize offers our students the opportunity to see a different aspect of Spanish life. With the visits to the historic monuments, the weekend excursions to different cities, in the salsa or guitar classes and on the tapas tours through the city, our objective is always the same: to not only educate the students, but to show them the life further on, too.

Mester provides help before, after and during its study programs. Our assesors will orientate you so that you can find the most adecuate program for your needs and objectives (academic, professional or personal).

During your stay, we promise to give all of our support and orientation. Furthermore, our team will accompany you on all the socio-cultural activities we organize.

We are young, dynamic and motivated. Our wide and solid experience makes us experts in the teaching of Spanish. The valuation and the comments of our students help us to effectively resolve any unforseen circumstance, something which improves the quality of our courses every day.

The majority of the students who study with us do so by recommendation from their Spanish teacher or from former Mester students. We give our all to each and every one of the more than five thousand students who come to us every year. Their enthusiasm and satisfaction is the best image of our school.

Spanish courses in Academia Mester

SPANISH LANGUAGE AND CULTURE (INT1)

Start: Every Monday of the year

Classes per week: 20, 4 daily

Duration of course: 1 – 50 weeks

Levels: A1 – C2

Students per class: 12 maximum (the average is 7)

Every day the class starts with grammatical structure and its practical application through exercises based on real situations.

After this, oral expression and auditive comprehension related to the previous exercises will be practiced in order to consolidate what has been learned. Written skills will also be practiced, as well as reading based on cultural themes in order to amplify the student’s vocabulary, always being focused on real situations.

SPANISH LANGUAGE AND CULTURE PLUS AN ADDITIONAL SUBJECT (INT2)

Start: Every Monday of the year

Classes per week: 25, 5 daily

Course duration: 1 – 24 weeks

Levels: A1 – C2

Students per class: Maximum 12 (the average is 7)

The content of this course is similar to the previous one, complemented by a fifth lesson to choose weekly from the following:

- Communication Activties (COMU)

- Spanish Literature (LITE)

- History of Spanish Art (ARTE)

- Modern Spanish History (HISTO)

- Business Spanish (NEGO)

- A-Level Revision (LEVE)

For all the courses, except that of Communication Activities, level B2 Spanish is necessary.

It is possible to follow all of these subjects consecutively but you cannot attend more than one class at the same time as they are given simultaneously.

SPANISH LANGUAGE AND CULTURE IN A REDUCED GROUP (INT3)

Start : Every Monday of the year

Classes per week: 20, 4 daily

Course duration: 1 – 8 weeks

Levels: A1 – C2

Students per class: Maximum 6 (the average is 3)

This course is ideal for notable progress in little time or to reach an elevated grasp of the language during longer stays.

The biggest advantage is that, due to the reduced group number, the teacher can meticulously follow the progress of each student.

SPANISH LANGUAGE AND CULTURE INDIVIDUAL CLASSES (INT4)

Start: Flexible

Classes per week: Flexible

Course duration: Flexible

Levels: A1 – C2

Students per class: 1

Given there is only one student per class, it is the student who decides the number of hours per week, the timetable and the content.

This is a course which is recommended, above all, if there is little time available or if the student wishes to complement any part of another course we offer. It is especially appropriate for those students who need specifically themed content or for those who want to reinforce the knowledge aquired in the group classes.

PREPARATION OF THE DIPLOMA DE ESPAÑOL COMO LENGUA EXTRANJERA (DELE)

Start : From 1 to 12 weeks before the exams

Classes per week: 20, 4 daily

Course duration: 1 – 12 weeks

Levels: A1 – C2

Students per class: Maximum 12 (the average is 7)

The DELE is the only diploma which is officially recognized by the Spanish Ministery of Education and Science. It is also widely reputed in the business world.

It has three levels: B1 (Initial), B2 (Intermediate) and C2 (Superior). The exams are in the second or third week (depending on the year) of May, August and November.

In the first four classes Spanish language is studied, while in the fifth class we work with past exam papers. Given that the exam has an oral part and a written part, the course includes a great amount of audio-visual comprehensions, specialised texts and compositions which gradually get more complicated, depending on to what level the student would like to prepare.

All the exams have a minimum level of knowledge with which to begin the course. For the intermediate level, it is necessary to have a level B2 of Spanish (intermediate) and to do the Superior exam course, the student should already be fluent in Spanish with a level of C1.

If the student starts the course in Mester with B1, in 12 weeks they will be ready to take the Intermediate DELE exam. If the student’s level is B2 on beginning the Mester course, in the same time period, he will be ready to take the Superior exam.

PREPARATION OF THE DIPLOMA DE ESPAÑOL DE LOS NEGOCIOS (CAMA)

Start : Every Monday of the year

Classes per week: 10, 2 daily

Course duration: 4 weeks

Levels: B2 – C2

Students per class: Maximum 6

Through this exam, the Official Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Madrid offers businesses a trustworthy way of evaluating the linguistic abilities of their staff and collaborates in the diffusion of Spanish as a language of international communication in the business world. It has three levels: Basic Certificate, Superior Certificate and Diploma.

ACADEMIC YEAR (YEAR)

Start : Every Monday of the year

Classes per week: 25 (10 in the last 5 weeks)

Course duration: 40 weeks

Levels: A1 – B1

Students per class: Maximum 12 (the average is 7)

After attending this course, the student is capable of handling him/herself in Spanish in both a personal and professional context. The student will feel completely immersed in the language and the culture and will achieve the confidence to communicate effectively.

Furthermore, the student will have the possibility of taking some of the most prestigious diplomas in Spanish: Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera (DELE) and the Certificado de Español de los Negocios de la Cámara de Comercio e Industria de Madrid.

Presentation to the DELE and the CAMA exams is optional and the fees of the exams are not included in the price of the course.

The majority of our students start the program the first Monday of September and finish the last Friday of June, with 2 weeks vacation at Christmas. Should the student wish to incorporate themselves on other dates, we ask that they consult availability.

TEACHER'S COURSE FOR NON-NATIVE SPEAKERS (SUPE)

Start : Every Monday of the year

Classes per week: 15, 3 daily

Course duration: 1 – 4 weeks

Levels: B2 – C2

Students per class: Maximum 12 (the average is 4)

Our training programs for teachers are designed to help and perfect the Spanish of a non-native teacher that doesn’t have experience in the field of teaching or would like to consolidate and refresh their knowledge.

During the first two classes, activities which analyze the language and its teaching methodology are carried out. Main grammatical subjects are revised with the objective of making them easier to address in the classroom. In the two following classes, training workshops will be taken about the four skills.
