The Spanish language is spoken by over 450 million people in the world, it is the second most studied and the third most used on the internet. This data shows that Spanish enjoys a great vitality and its presence in many countries becomes more and more important every day, the United States is one of the places where it grows the fastest.
In United States the importance and presence of Spanish is growing quickly among its inhabitants. Also, with more than 50 millions Spanish speakers, it is the second country behind Mexico counting the biggest community of Spanish speaking citizens in the world, beating other nations such as Spain, Columbia or Argentina.
The important presence of Spanish in United States is present not only in data and statistics, it is also present in daily life and in important events, like in the last 2012 Golden Globes gala, when the Spanish actor Antonio Banderas and the colombian actress Sofía Vergara used Spanish. Also in the programme of the ABC national programme “Jimmy Kimmel Live” , where the presenter and the american actor Will Ferrell had a full interview in Spanish. Even the State Department of United States gave a press conference in Spanish early March, for the first time in history.
These are all clear examples that show the great growth Spanish is undergoing in United States. Academic sources also state that by 2040 it will not only be the most spoken language in the country, but also the most spoken in the world, and so learning Spanish will become, if it is not yet, a necessary requirement.
